Biography
Thomas Malloy was born in 1912 in Dillon, South Carolina. Malloy started his art career late in life after holding jobs as a factory worker and a lay minister. His first show was at the Trenton Public Library in 1967 and led to exhibitions at the Camden County Library and the University of Pennsylvania Museum. In the 1970’s, the Hermitage Collectors Gallery showcased Malloy in the group exhibition “5 Black Artists.” During this time, he also began teaching art at local colleges. Malloy was even honored on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, where Rep. Josh Holt announced that Malloy was “ truly a treasure in New Jersey’s cultural heritage.” He died in 2008 at the age of 95.
