Biography
Mequitta Ahuja was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1976 and grew up in Connecticut in a interracial South Asian and African American family. She studied at Hampshire College and earned an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago where she was mentored by renowned painter Kerry James Marshall. Ahuja has participated in artist’s residencies at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Studio Museum, The Maryland Institute College of Art, and Siena Art Institute, and in 2018 was awarded the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. Her work can be found in the collections of the David C. Driskell Center, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Studio Museum in Harlem.
