Biography
Kahlil Robert Irving earned a BFA in Art History and Ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2015 and distinguished himself as an MFA Fellow at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Art at Washington University in St. Louis in 2017. Irving’s artwork confronts violent legacies that shape daily environments.
Irving’s work has received various accolades, including a spot on Artsy’s Vanguard 2020 annual list of the most promising artists, an Artist in Residence at Art Omi in 2018, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Biennial Award in 2019, followed by the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant in 2020. His work is in collections worldwide, including the J.P. Morgan Chase Art Collection, Carnegie Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, to name a few. Most recently, he participated in the prestigious Social Works II exhibition at Gagosian Gallery in London and at the Singapore Biennale, Singapore.
