Biography
Joyce J. Scott was born in 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland. Scott works as a printmaker, weaver, sculptor, performance artist, and educator. She received her B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art and M.F.A. from the Instituto Allende. Scott has had many solo exhibitions throughout her career held in numerous cities across the United States. Her work can be found in collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Mint Museum of Art in North Carolina, the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Scott’s work was also featured by Goya Gallery at the 2013 Venice Biennale in the Palazzo Franchetti.
Scott was also the recipient of many awards and fellowships throughout her career. These include the National Printing Fellowship (1992), the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Award (1994), Masters of the Medium, James Renwick Alliance, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (2006).
