Biography

Danny Simmons was born in 1953 and raised in Hollis, Queens. He earned a degree in social work from New York University and a Master’s degree in Public Finance from Long Island University Brooklyn. Over the course of his career, Simmons founded Rush Arts Gallery and Corridor Gallery and co-founded Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation in Philadelphia. Simmons is also a writer and a poet. In 2004, he published a work of fiction titled Three Days as the Crow Flies and has also published three volumes of poetry. He is the co-executive producer of Def Jam Poetry alongside his brother Russel Simmons. In 2012, he was awarded an honorary Ph.D. in fine arts from Long Island University Brooklyn.
