Biography
Born in 1968 in Manchester, England, Chris Ofili received his B.F.A. from the Chelsea School of Art in 1991 and his M.F.A. from the Royal College of Art in 1993. Work by Ofili has been the subject of solo exhibitions worldwide, including recent shows at The Arts Club of Chicago, the Tate Britain located in London, England, the Kesternergesellschaft in Hanover Germany, and the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York. More accomplishments include representing Great Britain in the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003, and in 1998 winning the Turner Prize, which has not been awarded to an artist in over a decade. Over the years, his art has been added to important collections worldwide. His works can be found at the British Museum in London, the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Chris Ofili continues to work and live in Trinidad.
