Biography

Charles Burwell born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1955. He received his B.F.A. in painting from Temple University and his M.F.A. in painting from Yale University. He is the 2008 recipient of the Pew Fellowship in the Arts in Painting and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant. He has participated in artist-in-residence programs at Yellow Springs Institute and Dartmouth College, and was a visiting artist at the Brandywine Graphic Workshop in 1987 and The Studio Museum in Harlem in 1984. His work is part of the permanent collections of Temple University, Pearson-McGonigle Athletic Complex, Philadelphia, PA, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
