Biography
Ashley Rivers is a contemporary interdisciplinary artist based in St. Petersburg, FL. She was born in Havelock, NC in 1994. Rivers studied at the University of South Florida, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a concentration in sculpture.
Despite her primary medium being sculpture, Rivers has shown an extreme aptitude in a wide variety of other mediums, including acrylic paint on canvas and collage. Issues regarding femininity and the female body are common themes reflected throughout her sculptures. Her work, per her artist statement, is aimed towards “allowing each viewer a chance at self-reflection and individual release.” In addition to her art, Rivers has also written a book, titled The Nature of Fire, which delves into her artistic journey leading up to and working with figurative sculpture.
As of 2023, Rivers has won almost 20 awards for her art. Most recently, she received an award at the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts for the festival’s emerging artist, the Beth-El Art Festival in Pasadena, FL, as well as a $5,000 award from the Halo Arts Project. Rivers has also exhibited in the MARA Art Studio & Gallery, the Community Foundation Tampa Bay Art Show, and the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center based in Miami.
