Biography

Alison Saar was born in Los Angeles, California in 1956. Saar is the daughter of artist Betye Saar. She attended Scripps College in Claremont, CA where she received her B.A. in 1978. While attending Scripps College, Saar studied African and Caribbean art with Dr. Samella Lewis. She then went on to attend Otis Art Institute (now Otis College of Art and Design). She was also an artist in residence at Dartmouth College. Her work has been exhibited internationally with key exhibitions at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago; Contemporary Museum in Baltimore; the UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History; Louver Gallery, Venice, California; Phyllis Kind Gallery in New York City; and Pasadena Museum of California Art.
