Biography
Margo Humphrey was born in 1942 in Oakland, California. She earned a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from the California College of Arts and Crafts and an MFA in Printmaking from Stanford University. She has taught art at numerous colleges and universities including the University of California Santa Cruz, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the San Francisco Art Institute, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Benin. She is currently the Department Head of Printmaking at the University of Maryland in College Park.
Humphrey’s work has been exhibited in such prestigious institutions as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Hampton University Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Lagos. Over the course of her career, she has been awarded the National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship, a Ford Foundation Fellowship, a Tiffany Fellowship, and the James D. Phelan Award from the World Print Council.
