Biography

Stephen Towns (b.1980) was born in and raised in Lincolnville, South Carolina. He earned a BFA from the University of South Carolina in 2004. Towns is a painter and self-trained quilter, and much of his work is inspired by his experience growing up in the South. In 2018, the Baltimore Museum of Art mounted a widely acclaimed solo exhibition of his paintings and quilts. His work can be found in the collections of the city of Charleston, South Carolina, and the Baltimore Museum of Art. The artist lives and works in Baltimore, MD.
