Biography

Allison Janae Hamilton was born in Kentucky in 1984. She was raised in Florida, but her maternal family roots can be found in rural west Tennessee. Hamilton earned a bachelor’s degree at Florida State University, an MFA from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in American Studies from New York University. She has been awarded artist residencies at the Studio Museum in Harlem, Recess NY, and Fundación Botín in Santander, Spain. Her work has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, MASS MoCA, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the National Portrait Gallery.
